China, the world's largest light bulb manufacturer, announced on the 22nd a huge subsidy program aimed at promoting the production of energy-saving lamps while striving to reduce pollution.
According to reports, a statement published by the official website of the Ministry of Finance of China indicated that the central government is expected to provide 50 million energy-saving light bulbs in the first phase, which will gradually let traditional incandescent lamps out of the historical arena.
The subsidized energy-saving lamp program shows that the government is striving to transform the factories and enterprises that consume energy and waste into cleanliness and environmental protection. 70% of the world's light bulbs are produced in China, and China's large-scale transformation will help accelerate the disappearance of incandescent lamps from the bedrooms and ceilings of residents around the world.
The statement said that if every Chinese can do the same, then the electricity saved will be equivalent to 60 million metric tons of carbon dioxide. “This is the first time in the history of the government to use financial subsidies to support the use of energy-saving light bulbs, which is also an innovative use of financial subsidies,†the Ministry of Finance said.
Subsidies are paid in indirect form. Consumers pay half price, merchants buy only 30% of the original price, the difference between the government will be returned to the energy-saving lamp production company. At the same time, government offices will give priority to the most efficient energy-saving lamps as lighting facilities.
The statement added that the government has appointed 13 companies including Zhejiang Sun Group to be responsible for the first batch of energy-saving lamp manufacturers.
