Is it difficult for LG to rush OLEDs or to test the water?

LG rush OLED or test water difficult to commercialize? A few days ago, overseas media reported that LG Electronics has launched a 55-inch OLED TV, which is a move that beats or beats its competitors.

In response, a number of industry sources said in an interview with reporters that although OLED will become the future of television display technology, but so far, the technology is still limited by the size of the application panel and the cost, OLED TV commercial development is facing challenges.

It is understood that, compared to ordinary television, OLED TV is more vivid and clear on the screen, and more light, thin, can reach a thickness of only 4 mm. The LG55-inch OLED TV will be accepted by LG Electronics' retail store in South Korea at a price of 11 million won (approximately US$10,340 per unit).

"This high price is not so much to increase sales, but rather to demonstrate technical strength." Hana Daewoo Securities analyst S. H. Chun said that for mass consumers, the high price of LG55-inch OLED TVs has determined that it is a “luxury product” and in the short term, the product will be dominated by high-end market.

At the same time, the analyst also said that it is too early to predict whether OLED will replace LCD as the main strategic tool for LG display technology, but it proves that it is of great significance in promoting technological advancement and industrial upgrading of the TV industry.

However, some analysts point out that consumers still tend to buy LCD TVs with larger size and higher cost performance.

“At present, the entire supply chain is more concerned about ultra-high resolution products. Due to high production costs, 55-inch OLED TVs are more expensive than LCD TVs.” Zhang Bing, research director of NPDisplaySearch, said that some consumers with purchasing power will still OLED TV pays, but this part of the consumer mainly focuses on the curiosity.

For LG's introduction of OLED TVs, China's color TV manufacturers can follow up. Liu Bingchen, a commentator for the industry and the economy, said, “Like TV LCD technology replacing CRT a decade ago, this will be the future trend, so domestic TV manufacturers must start to do OLED TVs. But for now, OLED panels The suppliers are mainly Samsung and LG, and the monopoly of resources is bound to bring certain trouble to domestic TV manufacturers."

Zhang Bing also believes that OLED TVs will not be mass-produced so quickly, at least not so optimistic. Since key technologies and resources are in the hands of Korean companies, China’s color TV manufacturers simply cannot imitate this technology and can only buy panels from Korean technology-savvy companies. Whether or not Korean companies will open up the sale and openness of related panels It all depends on their strategy.
