SteamVR is expected to be used on Mac OSX and Linux platforms for several months

Last month's Steam developer, Valve programmer Joe Ludwig revealed that Valve plans to launch a SteamVR test version for Mac OSX and Linux users within a few months.

At present, the VR PC operating system on the market is basically monopolized by Windows, and it seems that this situation will not change in the short term. However, Valve is expected to break this monopoly as it plans to bring SteamVR to Mac OSX and Linux platforms in a matter of months.

Ludwig said that in the first year of SteamVR's launch, the company has been receiving feedback from developers and users, many of whom want to use SteamVR on different operating systems.

Ludwig also showed the process of using SteamVR on the Linux platform. "We are actively working on OSX and Linux support and hope to launch a beta version that supports both platforms in a few months."

However, even with the beta versions of Linux and OSX, application support for these systems is still limited. Most of the existing SteamVR applications use the DirectX API (Application Programming Interface) - unique to the Window system. In order for the game to run on an operating system other than Windows, the game also needs to support APIs such as graphics.
