Texas Instruments 3D Machine Vision Reference Design

The 3D Machine Vision Reference Design includes a Texas Instruments DLP structured optical software development kit. This design integrates TI digital micromirror devices in a structured light solution with cameras, sensors, motors or other peripherals, providing developers with a system framework for building a transport point.

The DLP4500NIR Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) acts as a spatial light modulator (SLM) to quickly, accurately and efficiently manipulate near-infrared (NIR) light to produce the desired pattern. Due to its high resolution in a compact package size, the DLP4500NIR DMD is often combined with a single-element detector to replace the expensive InGaA array detector design for a high-performance, cost-effective portable solution.

2. TMS320DM8168: Da Vinci Digital Media Processor

The DM816x DaVinciTM video processor is a highly integrated, programmable platform that leverages TI's DaVinciTM technology to meet the processing needs of the following applications: video encoding, decoding, transcoding and rate conversion, video security, video conferencing, video infrastructure , media servers, and digital signage. With the flexibility of a fully integrated hybrid processor solution, the device enables OEMs and ODMs to quickly bring devices with robust operating system support, rich user interfaces, and high processing performance to market. This device combines programmable video and audio processing with a highly integrated set of peripherals.

The key to this device is the up to 3 high-resolution video and imaging coprocessors (HDVICP2). Each coprocessor is capable of performing a single 1080p60 H.264 encoding or decoding, or multiple lower resolution or frame rate encoding and decoding. In addition, multi-channel HD to HD or HD to SD transcoding and multi-encoding can be done. With the ability to simultaneously process 1080p60 data streams, the TMS320DM816x devices are a powerful solution for today's demanding HD video applications.

3.DLPC300: 0.3 WVGA Digital Controller

The DLPC300 digital controller, DLP 0.3 WVGA chipset component, supports reliable operation of the DLP3000 DMD. The DLPC300 controller also provides a convenient, versatile interface between the consumer electronics and the DMD that enables high-speed mode rates (up to 4kHz binary) and provides LED control and data formats for multiple input resolutions. The DLP300 also outputs a trigger signal to synchronize with the display mode of a camera, sensor, or other peripheral.

The DLPC300 controller integrates the DLP 0.3 WVGA chipset into a small package and low cost optical orientation applications. The example end device of the 0.3 WVGA chipset includes a 3D scanning or metrology system with structured lighting, interactive displays, chemical analyzers, medical devices, and other end devices that require spatial light modulation (or light orientation and light patterning).
