TDK Co., Ltd. (President: Sakamoto Kenhiro) has introduced a new laminated power inductor with the world’s smallest external dimensions of L: 1.0 × W: 0.5 × H: 0.7 mm. This innovation marks a significant step forward in miniaturization for power components used in mobile devices. This product is a further evolution of previous models, which had dimensions of L: 1.6 × W: 0.8 × H: 0.8 mm. The new design reduces both volume and package area by approximately 60%, making it ideal for space-constrained applications like smartphones and tablets. It will be mass-produced starting in July 2013. The product leverages TDK’s unique structural design and advanced low-loss ferrite material technology to deliver reliable performance under power circuits operating at several hundred mA. Despite its compact size (1005), it maintains excellent electrical characteristics, making it suitable for high-performance systems. As mobile devices continue to evolve, they are increasingly required to handle high-speed communication and power-intensive tasks. This has led to more complex power supply circuits with multiple layers and a growing need for power inductors. To address these challenges, TDK’s new inductor helps improve battery life while saving valuable board space. Building on previous series such as 2520 (L: 2.5 × W: 2.0 mm), 2016 (L: 2.0 × W: 1.6 mm), 2012 (L: 2.0 × W: 1.2 mm), and 1608 (L: 1.6 × W: 0.8 mm), this new product expands TDK’s comprehensive lineup, offering greater flexibility for designers and engineers.
