Layout AR Field Amazon Apply Gesture Control AR Patent

Amazon has filed for a patent on an augmented reality system that’s controlled by gestures. This patent outlines the use of cameras, computers, and projectors that can project interactive scenes directly onto physical surfaces. ![Amazon AR Projector](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/59/65/8a/b25b19d~ivr_baidu_autow600~.jpg) A user interacts with an augmented reality projector using gestures. ![User Gestures with AR](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/59/65/8a/b2796c2~ivr_baidu_autow600~.jpg) In the patent document, Amazon explained, “The projected content might include e-books, videos, images, interactive menus, or any other kind of visual material. Multiple cameras and sensors will be used to capture both the imagery in the scene and the user's hands within it.” ![AR Projected Scene](http://i.bosscdn.com/blog/59/65/8a/b2a09d2~ivr_baidu_autow600~.jpg) This patent builds on two earlier applications approved by Amazon back in December 2015. The New York Times reported earlier this year that Amazon is looking into the idea of interactive home stores, where augmented reality could show how a couch, stove, or even clothing would look placed inside a consumer’s home. Additionally, the Wall Street Journal mentioned in May that Amazon is quickly scaling up its home services division in Seattle, shifting focus away from large warehouses toward direct online orders. According to the LinkedIn profiles of those involved, one of the inventors listed on the patent came from Amazon’s Mechanical Turk team. Another two worked at Amazon’s Lab126 in the San Francisco Bay Area. The fourth inventor also worked at Lab126 but has since moved over to Google, where he now serves as a software engineer. I personally find this development fascinating because it shows how Amazon is not only innovating in logistics and retail but also pushing boundaries in tech like augmented reality. It seems like they’re trying to blend the digital and physical worlds in ways that could revolutionize how we shop and interact with products. I wonder what other applications they have in mind beyond just home stores—maybe something like virtual furniture shopping or interactive kitchen setups? It’s definitely exciting to think about the possibilities!
