The digital currency trading platform OKEX WeChat public account was suspected to be reported by the user
On the evening of March 2, it was reported that the well-known digital currency trading platform OKEX had its WeChat official account suspended and became inaccessible. At the same time, the official account of Firecoin Network also could not be found on the WeChat platform. A reporter contacted OKEX representatives, who confirmed that the account was indeed blocked. According to the company, the suspension occurred during the 3.15 consumer rights protection period, but no formal regulatory notice had been received.
It has been observed that searching for "Firecoin" or "OKEX" on the WeChat official account page does not return any results. Instead, only related links appear. When attempting to access the OKEX official account, users are now met with a message stating, “This account has been blocked and the content cannot be viewed.†The reason given is that the account was flagged due to user complaints and subsequent platform review, which suggested potential violations of laws, regulations, or policies.
While the Firecoin Network’s official account continues to post articles normally and can be read without issue, it is no longer searchable within the WeChat official account section, nor can it be shared with friends. A source from the Firecoin Network stated that the official account is currently experiencing some irregularities, and that the WeChat certification had just expired, with the process still ongoing.
An OKEX marketing representative confirmed the blockage of the official account but emphasized that it was unrelated to regulatory actions. They mentioned that the company has not received any official communication from regulators. However, they acknowledged that the account may have been reported by users during the 3.15 period.
Among the three major digital currency exchanges in China—OKEX, Firecoin, and Bitcoin.com—only OKEX and Firecoin’s WeChat accounts are currently facing issues. The websites of these platforms, as well as their Weibo pages, remain fully functional.
With the continued rise of blockchain technology, some users have started reselling digital currencies, prompting regulatory authorities to introduce new policies aimed at curbing speculative behavior, particularly in cases involving ICOs and illegal fundraising activities. These measures reflect growing concerns about market stability and investor protection.
