Samsung abdicates, Huawei becomes the most profitable Android smartphone manufacturer

In the third quarter of this year, Huawei earned a total of US$200 million in operating profit in the mobile phone market, accounting for 2.4% of the global smartphone market. This result made Huawei surpass Samsung and become the most profitable Android smartphone manufacturer. .

Research firm Strategy AnalyTIcs data shows that although Samsung is still in the lead in terms of mobile phone number and sales volume, due to the devastating impact of Galaxy Note 7's major accident on the company's mobile phone business, Samsung's mobile phone profit in the third quarter has fallen sharply, at least three mobile phones. The profit of the manufacturer exceeds it, with Huawei's profit ranking first.

The report shows that in the third quarter of this year, the global smartphone market has a total profit of 9 billion US dollars, of which the most profitable mobile phone brand is still Apple. Apple's mobile phone revenue in the third quarter was $8.5 billion, accounting for 91% of the global smartphone market.

Excluding Huawei's 2.4% share, the remaining less than 7% were contributed by vivo (2.2%), OPPO (2.2%) and Samsung (2.2%) and other Android mobile device manufacturers. Huawei, vivo and OPPO are among the top three most profitable Android phone brands in the world.

According to a report released by global market research firm Newzoo in October, the number of smartphones and tablets worldwide was about 3 billion in July 2016, with Apple devices having the highest market share, accounting for 34.8% of all smart mobile devices. Samsung ranked second with a market share of 23.3%, followed by three Chinese manufacturers: Huawei, Xiaomi and Lenovo. Among the top ten brands in the market, there are seven Chinese brands. At the same time, China's mobile device market accounted for 30.2% of the world.

It can be seen that the number of Samsung mobile phones still has a huge market share, but the "explosion door" has a great impact on the revenue of Samsung mobile phones.

Samsung’s third-quarter earnings report showed that Samsung’s net profit fell to 4.41 trillion won ($3.9 billion) in the third quarter ended September 30, a 17% decrease from the same period last year, but still exceeded the market. The average analyst estimate is 3.9 trillion won. The company's third-quarter operating profit was 5.2 trillion won (about 4.6 billion US dollars), less than 7.3 trillion won in the same period last year, down 36.1% from the previous quarter. Samsung Electronics’ revenue for the third quarter was 47.8 trillion won, down 7.4% year-on-year.

In the report of Strategy AnalyTIcs, Samsung has fallen out of the top five in the global mobile phone profit rankings - only ranked ninth, with a profit of only 10 million US dollars, accounting for only 0.1%. Prior to this, Samsung has maintained its second position in the world for a long time. In 2015, Samsung accounted for 14% of total smartphone revenue worldwide.

Samsung itself believes that the explosion of Note 7 has led to the current situation and summarized it as a “catastrophic event”, saying that this led to the quarterly profit of the mobile sector hitting the lowest since the first launch of the Galaxy line of mobile phones six years ago. Record.

The industry believes that the Note 7 "explosive door" has pushed Samsung to the most dangerous situation in history, not only suffered huge economic losses, but also caused incalculable brand damage. After the Note 7 smartphone was discontinued due to the "explosive door" incident, Samsung's mobile operating profit fell 96% to 100 billion won a year ago.

In contrast, China's local brands have presented a great form.

On October 22nd, a report released by global market research firm TrendForce showed that Chinese brand shipments continued to grow at a high rate. Huawei's shipments increased by 10.3% from the previous month to 32 million units, ranking third in the world. OPPO and vivo increased by 20.3% and 23% respectively in the third quarter, and Lenovo also achieved more than 20% growth, which is the best quarter of this year, but statistics show that Xiaomi fell by 7%.

Six days after the glory of Huawei (No. 28), a research and development meeting was held. After a lapse of 16 years, the expeditionary army that had expanded overseas was organized. This time, Huawei has assembled 2,000 senior experts and cadres from R&D and went overseas to try to seize the opportunity of digitalization and network transformation.

At the beginning of November, Huawei held a new product launch conference for HUAWEI Mate 9 in Germany, and launched two versions of mobile phones with 5.9-inch and 5.5-inch curved screens. Among them, the 5.5-inch curved screen version was jointly designed by Huawei and Porsche, and the price was 1,395 euros (about 10,431 yuan); the price of 5.9 inches was 699 euros (about 5,300 yuan). Yu Chengdong, CEO of Huawei's consumer business, gave a speech after the press conference.

Huawei will surpass Apple in two years and become the second largest smartphone manufacturer.

OPPO and vivo, which have sprung up in sales this year, have also shown great vitality in the mobile phone market.

According to data from market research firm Counterpoint Research, in the third quarter of this year, vivo and OPPO even surpassed Huawei and became the top two smartphone manufacturers in the Chinese market.

Thanks to the strong offline channels of OPPO and vivo, and deep ploughing in the market of third- and fourth-tier cities, in the Chinese market, OPPO and vivo ranked in the third quarter with a market share of 16.6%, respectively. 16.2% ranked in the top two, and Huawei, which was ranked first in the rankings, was completely surpassed this time.
