China's mold industry ushered in new opportunities for development, exports continue to grow

China's mold industry has achieved remarkable progress. Throughout its development journey, the domestic market has consistently prioritized innovation and advancement, actively engaging in technical exchanges with developed nations. These efforts have significantly bolstered the strength of China's mold sector and enhanced the competitive edge of mold enterprises in the global market. Concurrently, China remains steadfast in its role as a major manufacturing hub, accelerating its transition toward becoming a powerhouse in manufacturing through continuous upgrades and transformations. This dynamic economic landscape has created fertile ground for mold development. By 2015, China’s mold industry had surpassed an output value of 2 trillion yuan. With the relocation of manufacturing operations from developed countries to China, the mold industry has encountered fresh opportunities for growth. While exports of molds have been rising steadily, the international competitiveness has improved, albeit primarily in mid-to-low-tier markets. High-precision molds still largely depend on imports, highlighting the need for domestic manufacturers to integrate across multiple domains to bridge this gap. The strategy of expanding domestic demand is set to fuel the growth of China's manufacturing sector, particularly within industries like automobiles, home appliances, information technology, packaging, construction materials, and consumer goods. Automotive manufacturing, for instance, accounts for over 90% of mold usage, with auto-related molds constituting nearly a third of China’s total mold output. Similarly, plastic products, which rely heavily on molding, represent 45% of China’s mold volume, with annual growth rates hovering around 15%-20%. In related sectors, China has embraced mold products with proprietary intellectual property rights. Through foreign investment and the adoption of advanced overseas experiences, technologies, and talents, the nation’s mold design and manufacturing capabilities have seen significant enhancement. Fostering independent innovation is critical, especially as industries shift toward sustainable growth models and structural optimization. Higher demands for advanced mold machinery and equipment are opening up vast opportunities for the mold industry. Furthermore, initiatives under the 12th Five-Year Plan, along with policies supporting strategic emerging industries, regional development strategies, and the revival of equipment manufacturing, are expected to drive further growth in the mold sector. Due to high manufacturing costs abroad, there is substantial demand for mid-to-high-end molds, many of which are sourced internationally. China’s current mold standards and export capacity are well-positioned to meet these requirements, making the mold export market highly promising. Today, China’s mold industry has established several specialized clusters and production bases, offering platforms for scientific enterprise development. These hubs have facilitated continuous improvements in companies' innovation capabilities, fostering independent intellectual property rights. Consequently, China’s mold enterprises are poised to gain even stronger global competitiveness in the future.
