Google promises to provide 1 billion US dollars to help the United States train high-tech talent

On October 13, according to a report by TechCrunch, the nature of work is evolving at a pace that's becoming increasingly visible around the world. While technology has always influenced job roles, the rapid advancements in automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence are now reshaping employment at an unprecedented speed. Google, as one of the world’s leading tech companies, is playing a significant role in this transformation. During his visit to Pittsburgh, Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced the “Grow with Google” initiative, a five-year plan aimed at supporting American workers through training and entrepreneurship opportunities. The company will allocate $1 billion in funding to non-profit organizations to help people develop new skills and launch businesses. This move reflects Google’s commitment to addressing the challenges brought about by technological change. Pittsburgh, a city once known for its steel industry, has become a symbol of economic revival through technology. For decades, it has been a model for how a region can recover from industrial decline. Carnegie Mellon University played a key role in this transformation, helping Pittsburgh emerge as a top tech hub in the U.S. Today, the city continues to lead in cutting-edge fields like robotics and autonomous vehicles. In his speech, Pichai highlighted the personal significance of Pittsburgh. “This was the first city I saw when I arrived in the U.S. 24 years ago,” he said. “Back then, the Internet wasn’t everywhere, but the city has transformed. High-tech jobs have doubled.” As part of the “Grow with Google” program, Google will invest $10 million in Goodwill to launch the Digital Career Accelerator, a program designed to train individuals for high-demand tech jobs. The initiative will also collaborate with libraries and community groups across the country to bring digital skills training directly to local communities. Additionally, Google aims to provide one million hours of volunteer service from its employees over the next five years. Pichai emphasized Google’s mission: “We believe information should be accessible to all, not just a few.” He pointed out that students in Pittsburgh schools can now access the same educational resources as those at top universities, thanks to Google’s support. “The Internet is a powerful equalizer,” he said, “and it can drive innovation and empower people to move forward.”
