Baidu AI technology maintains network security_How do you think

With the rapid expansion of the internet, while it has brought immense convenience to people's daily lives, it has also created significant challenges in managing and securing the vast amount of information being generated. Recently, discussions around cybersecurity during the two sessions and 315 events have once again brought this issue into the spotlight. In the era of personal computers and mobile internet, there were already comprehensive security solutions available. However, as we enter the AI-driven age, new threats are emerging. "We've noticed that many black and gray market products are now leveraging AI technologies, which is essentially a form of productivity. By integrating AI capabilities into security management, we can significantly enhance both the efficiency and effectiveness of our cybersecurity efforts," said Han Zuli, General Manager of Baidu Security. He also called on society as a whole to collaborate in building a secure AI ecosystem. Over the past few years, Baidu has used AI to combat harmful content and effectively intercepted malicious information. At the end of last year, Baidu released its "2017 Information Security Comprehensive Governance Report," which revealed that the company had blocked 20.29 billion malicious web pages and dealt with 45.12 billion pieces of harmful content. These staggering numbers highlight the growing urgency of cyber security concerns. To tackle these rising threats, Baidu has been empowering its core technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence. By applying multiple AI techniques—including natural language processing, deep learning, and image recognition—Baidu has developed comprehensive service solutions for content monitoring and control. Through risk strategy models, platform services, and application-level security measures, Baidu has established a multi-layered defense system. Additionally, Baidu continuously models the security of entire websites, conducting real-time monitoring 24/7. It uses various interception methods, such as risk labeling, search reduction, and ad offline measures, to effectively mitigate the risks posed by malicious sites. According to Baidu’s data, in 2017, the company handled 208,000 suspicious malicious websites and rejected 2.13 billion bad advertisements. This reflects how quickly cybercriminals are adapting their tactics. To counter this, Baidu has continuously upgraded its machine strategies and manual intervention techniques, ensuring that over 99% of harmful content is intercepted before it goes live. The challenge of managing the exponential growth of online content lies in efficiently reviewing massive amounts of data. Content reviews typically involve checking qualifications, content itself, and ongoing monitoring after launch. The latter is particularly demanding. Every day, Baidu reviews up to 470 million promotional contents. Thanks to its automated systems, more than 95% of the content is reviewed automatically, while thousands of human reviewers work alongside to ensure quality and accuracy. Notably, Baidu’s AI technology extends beyond the digital space, reaching into the offline world and dismantling entire black chains of online production. In December last year, Baidu’s “Filter Action” helped the Haidian Branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau break China’s first case involving illegal mobile phone marketing that violated user privacy. Baidu CEO Li Yanhong emphasized that the company’s DNA is rooted in technology. It is known that Baidu invests nearly 15% of its annual revenue into R&D, ranking among the top globally. These investments have led to numerous technical patents in the security field, including the national patent for “a method and device for identifying authorized information,” which automates the process of assessing website legality and reduces the occurrence of infringement issues. Currently, Baidu has formed the first “AI Intelligent Terminal Security Ecology Alliance” with Huawei and the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, offering a comprehensive security solution based on four key technologies. This collaboration will further strengthen Baidu’s efforts to combat online black markets, protect information security, and create a safer and cleaner internet environment.
