In the age of rapid internet development, while the web has brought immense convenience to daily life, it has also created significant challenges for information security governance. Recently, both the Two Sessions and 315 events once again highlighted cybersecurity as a key topic of concern. In the era of PCs and mobile internet, security solutions were already well-established, but with the rise of AI, new threats have emerged. "We’ve noticed that many black and gray market products are now leveraging AI technologies, which is essentially a form of productivity. By integrating AI capabilities into security management, we can significantly improve efficiency and enhance network security," said Han Zuli, General Manager of Baidu Security. He also called on society as a whole to work together in building a secure AI ecosystem. Over the years, Baidu has used AI to combat harmful content and effectively intercepted malicious information. At the end of last year, Baidu released the “2017 Information Security Comprehensive Governance Report,” revealing that the company blocked 20.29 billion malicious web pages and handled 45.12 billion pieces of harmful content. These staggering numbers serve as a clear warning about the growing cyber threats. Baidu has taken a multi-dimensional approach to empower core technologies like big data and artificial intelligence. By utilizing AI techniques such as natural language processing, deep learning, and image recognition, Baidu has developed comprehensive service solutions for content control and risk management. Through a three-tier defense system—risk strategy models, platform services, and application services—Baidu ensures robust protection against online threats. Moreover, Baidu continuously models website security, conducting real-time monitoring around the clock. It uses various interception methods, including risk labeling, search reduction, and ad removal, to effectively reduce the threat of illegal content. According to Baidu's data, in 2017, the company dealt with 208,000 suspicious malicious websites and rejected 2.13 billion harmful advertisements. This indicates that cybercriminals are launching more aggressive attacks. In response, Baidu has continuously upgraded its machine strategies and manual review processes, allowing the system to intercept over 99% of harmful content before it goes live. The challenge of managing massive amounts of online content lies in how to efficiently review and monitor it. Traditional audits involve checking qualifications, content, and post-launch dynamics. The latter is especially demanding. Every day, Baidu reviews up to 470 million pieces of promotional content. Using an automated system, more than 95% of this content is reviewed by machines, while thousands of human reviewers ensure quality and accuracy. Notably, Baidu’s AI technology extends beyond the digital world, targeting offline threats and dismantling the entire black market chain. In December last year, Baidu’s “Filter Action” helped the Haidian Branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau break China’s first case of mobile phone marketing infringing user privacy. Baidu CEO Li Yanhong emphasized that as a tech-driven company, Baidu’s DNA is rooted in innovation. The company invests nearly 15% of its annual revenue into R&D, ranking among the top globally. These investments have led to numerous security-related patents, such as the national patent for “a method and device for identifying authorized information,” which automatically assesses the legality of website content and reduces instances of infringement. Currently, Baidu has partnered with Huawei and the China Institute of Communications to establish the first “AI Intelligent Terminal Security Ecology Alliance.” It has launched a comprehensive security solution based on four key technologies. This initiative will further strengthen Baidu’s efforts to combat cybercrime, protect information security, and foster a cleaner, safer online environment.
