The ISL78227 and ISL78229 support a modular design that meets the system's scalability requirements for power and thermal management. They support a wide 5V-55V input/output voltage range and provide efficiencies greater than 95% to reduce power loss and heat dissipation. Interleaving two-phase applications for four-phase applications effectively doubles output power and reduces input/output ripple, enabling power supply designers to use smaller capacitors, saving board space and reducing bill of materials. Numerous protection features allow the ISL78227 and ISL78229 to adapt to almost any operating condition. Its unique soft-on function ensures smooth transition from discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) to continuous conduction mode (CCM) after soft-start is completed, ensuring that the power supply can safely start under all conditions. .

The ISL78227 and ISL78229 also offer a unique envelope tracking feature that dynamically adjusts or "lifts" the output voltage on the fly to meet all system load requirements. For example, as long as the battery power is low, the power consumption of various components such as audio amplifiers must be limited, especially if the engine is turned off and the radio is still on. Transient events such as starting-stop system restarting the engine also require voltage adjustment during operation. To simplify the task of obtaining the ISO 26262 Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) rating, the ISL78229 provides a digital PMBusTM interface for advanced control, telemetry and diagnostics.
