Cree launches LED bulbs that resemble incandescent lamps for less than $ 10

American Cree recently launched an LED bulb below $ 10, which will have a major impact on the LED lighting industry. As we all know, the LEDs and lighting fixtures introduced by Cree are of high quality. This is the first time that A-type LED bulbs have been replaced. It seems that Cree will fight giants Philips, GE and the lighting companies that buy its LEDs, such as Best Buy.

Its pricing is very competitive. The name of the series is Cree LED bulbs, including three models: warm white equivalent to 60W, priced at $ 12.97; white light equivalent to 60W, priced at $ 13.97; warm white equivalent to 40W, priced 9.97 USD. In other words, Cree not only started making light bulbs, but the price also exceeded the 10 yuan mark, which is not a small threat to competitors. This series of bulbs can be purchased from HomeDepot.com from March 5.

This product of Cree has three major characteristics, the first is the price, which has exceeded $ 15 and $ 10. Although previously, buyers could also buy the 40W equivalent of "EcoSMART" LED bulbs from Home Depot for $ 9.97, the quality was far inferior to that of Cree.

Second, there is confidence that consumers may not know about Cree, but the company will soon have Energy Star standards to make a meaningful approval stamp for each model. In addition, each bulb has a 10-year warranty.

Finally, this LED bulb looks like an incandescent bulb. This is also due to the fact that many consumers cannot forget the market demand for incandescent lamps. Cree recognized this and launched a real bulb-shaped LED lamp in frosted glass.

This series is dimmable, with a color rendering index of 80 and a service life of 25,000 hours. The $ 13 warm white light replaces 60W (2700K) LED bulbs and produces 800 lumens (84.2 lumens per watt) at 9.5W. The $ 14 60W (5000K) LED bulb produces 800 lumens (88.9 lumens per watt) at 9.0W. A $ 10 40W (2700K) bulb produces 450 lumens (75 lumens per watt) at 6W.

In terms of hardware, Cree's LED bulbs seem to be a very traditional design. Interestingly, in order to prevent the glass shell from breaking, Cree used viscous rubber to coat the glass. The glass and bulb-shaped Cree bulbs achieve a true omnidirectional light pattern, and the sticky rubber material on the surface makes it look like a layer of dust and dirt.

The internal design of the light bulb adopts XP-E LED to surround a central tower, inside which is the driving circuit. This is modeled after the filament design of an incandescent lamp, which is more reminiscent of the outdated "corncob" LED bulb. Corncob bulbs used to be popular, but the light quality was poor, so they were replaced with more advanced technology. Cree modified this design, installing radiators and drivers inside the center tower, reducing costs and requiring an engineering team that can meet the challenges.

Cree's LED bulbs will be available for sale at all Home Depot stores in the United States on March 21.
