Reporter: As a “post-85” generation individual, how did you feel when you were first elected as a National People’s Congress representative? What are your expectations for this role?

Hu Zhonghui: Being elected as a National People’s Congress representative was both an honor and a great responsibility. The NPC plays a vital role in shaping national policies, and it’s encouraging to see that the voices of frontline workers and craftsmen are increasingly valued. This platform gives us a chance to represent the interests of the working class and contribute to the development of the country. I believe that as a grassroots representative, we must stay close to the people, listen to their concerns, and work diligently to support our industry and the broader economy.

I strongly believe in the spirit of craftsmanship—“Doing a line, loving a line, drilling a line, and carefully polishing every part.” These words reflect the dedication and precision required in manufacturing. The 19th Party Congress emphasized the need to foster a culture of excellence and commitment. To achieve success in any career, one must have perseverance, a strong will, and a passion for continuous improvement. It’s through these values that we can make a real difference in our daily work.

Reporter: As someone involved in the machinery manufacturing industry, what do you think is most needed for the industry’s future growth?

Hu Zhonghui: The government should continue to support scientific and technological innovation, encourage enterprises to invest more in R&D, and strengthen the equipment manufacturing sector. It’s also essential to promote the spirit of craftsmanship, improve talent development systems, and ensure that skilled workers are properly recognized and rewarded. By doing so, we can elevate the quality of manufacturing and create a solid foundation for “Made in China 2025” and the nation’s long-term goal of becoming a manufacturing powerhouse.

To build a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system, we need to accelerate the development of a smart grid with UHV as its backbone. This requires timely approval of key UHV projects. China’s UHV construction is still in a critical phase, and by advancing it, we can not only benefit employees but also enhance grid safety, support environmental protection, and drive industrial upgrades.

Reporter: How do you view China’s UHV construction? What challenges remain in its development?

Hu Zhonghui: Over the past decade, UHV has proven to be a reliable and advanced technology, providing strong support for China’s economic and social development. Despite some debates, the technology has demonstrated world-class performance in terms of safety and efficiency. Our hope is that the state will provide more policy support and expedite the approval of UHV projects. With national backing, we can further enhance UHV infrastructure, invest in human and material resources, and help build a stronger brand for “Made in China.”

Reporter: With the development of UHV, how do you see the role of technological innovation in driving productivity?

Hu Zhonghui: Technological innovation drives industrial upgrading, stimulates related sectors, and nurtures a new generation of high-quality professionals. In the power industry, UHV has become a symbol of “Made in China,” with China leading globally. Pinggao Group has focused on independent innovation, developing world-class products, mastering cutting-edge technologies, and building a comprehensive innovation system. We’ve achieved over 94 new product appraisals, more than 30 reaching international standards, and over 1,200 patents. In this era of rapid change, I’m proud to be part of the “Made in China” movement.

Reporter: What suggestions do you have for promoting the development of UHV construction?

Hu Zhonghui: First, we should integrate the State Grid Corporation’s rolling plan into the mid-term adjustment of the “13th Five-Year” power plan, accelerating the construction of the “Sanhua” UHV synchronous grid and forming a clear structure for transmission and receiving ends. Second, we need to approve the construction of key UHV AC projects like the Huazhong-Japanese ring network and Fuzhou-Xiamen, enhancing grid interconnection and safety. Third, we should align UHV development with the “Belt and Road” initiative, supporting international expansion and grid interconnection efforts.
